Dime Box, Tex. (June 30, 2008) - Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services, Inc. has awarded a scholarship to Katherine Campbell, a recent graduate of Dime Box High School. Campbell received this scholarship due, in part, to the volunteer work she has done with individuals who have developmental disabilities.

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be active members of a Lutheran church, achieve a junior or senior level status in high school, obtain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and be interested in pursuing a career in the field of developmental disabilities.

Campbell has been actively volunteering at her church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, for many years. She also does volunteer work for the Dime Box Independent School District, Vacation Bible School and for Wildlife Habitat Repair and Maintenance.

“The great thing about Katie,” says her mother, Beth, “is that her volunteer work comes straight from her heart. She doesn’t do anything just to look good on paper.”

In addition to volunteering, Campbell earned Academic All-District in a variety of sports, including basketball, volleyball and softball. She was also a member of Beta Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Future Farmer’s of America.

In the fall, Campbell plans to attend Texas A&M where she plans to major in Special Education and minor in Kinesiology. Once she has earned her bachelor’s degree, Katie hopes to get her master’s in Communication Disorders and go on to become a Speech Pathologist.
