Bethesda Gives Award to Heather Gartzke

Oconomowoc, Wis. (July 1, 2008) - Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services, Inc. has awarded a scholarship to Heather Gartzke, a junior at Concordia University Wisconsin. Gartzke received this scholarship due, in part, to the volunteer work she has done with individuals who have developmental disabilities.

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be active members of a Lutheran church, achieve at least a sophomore level status in college, obtain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and be interested in pursuing a career in the field of developmental disabilities.

Gartzke is currently pursuing a degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Special Education. In addition to school, she works at Lutheran Homes of Oconomowoc, where she is often able to spend time with individuals with developmentally disabilities.

Additionally, Gartzke has volunteered for the last four years at Camp LuWiSoMo, during sessions designed specifically for people with developmental disabilities. At the camp, Gartzke is a counselor and supervisor.
