Click "Undo", Click "Delete"
Jeremiah 31:34
"For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
Computers have certainly made our lives easier in the last few years, especially when you are typing a paper for a class, or writing a presentation for your job.
With the click of the mouse you can add a sentence, copy and paste a paragraph into a new section of your document, add a graphic or insert a table. If you don't like the results, or you make a mistake, you can undo your last action with a click on the "undo" icon. In a split second your last action is undone, and there is no evidence that it even occurred. The item that you moved ends up back where it was in the first place. The graphic you decided you really didn't like is gone in an instant. With computers correcting errors is easy.
Do you ever wish that you had an "undo" icon for your daily life? You know, something that you could click to remove the fact that you have done something wrong, that you have sinned. Perhaps you would like to "undo" the unkind words that slipped out of your mouth before you realized what you were saying. Or "undo" that thoughtless action that was done in anger. In truth there are days when it seems like we could use an "undo" icon from the minute we wake up until the moment we fall asleep.
While we may not be able to undo our sinful words and actions with the click of a computer icon, there is a way that they have been "undone" for us, or to be more exact, a way that they have been "deleted" on our behalf.
When we believe and trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are assured that all of our sins are permanently "deleted" from God's record. Through faith in Jesus we receive forgiveness for all of our sins, and they are remembered no more (Jeremiah 31:34). Jesus' death on the cross "deleted" the sins of the whole world. His complete and unconditional love for us sets us free from any lingering feelings of guilt and shame. Through the work of the Holy Spirit as we hear God's Word, we are empowered to love and forgive each other.
Every day is an opportunity for us to confess our sins and ask God to forgive us. Every day God "deletes" our sins and "remembers them no more." Every day He gives us a chance to start over again.
Thank you Heavenly Father for the gift of forgiveness through Your Son Jesus Christ. Please forgive me all my sins and remember them no more. Help me also to forgive the people who hurt me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
