Spread the News of His Birth
At this holiday season, I find myself excited to go to the mailbox and get my mail. E-mail and telephones are very convenient, but there is nothing like receiving a letter from family or friends. I love Christmas cards. I love the pictures and the different messages. I love to hear how my family and friends are doing. I especially love when a photograph comes with it. The cards offer a personal touch that you don't always receive throughout the year. They always make you feel special...loved. How wonderful to spread the exciting news of Christ's birth by doing something loving for another-just as our Lord did for us! We get to share our news and God's news at the same time!
There is a wonderful tradition that you can try with your Christmas cards to encourage your love for others throughout the entire year.
- Put all of your Christmas cards in one convenient spot near the dinner table. (ie: a basket or large envelope)
- Each night at dinner, have someone chose a card from your pile.
- Talk fondly about this person/family.
- Say a prayer for this person/family.
- Cut the card down the middle and use the picture side as a postcard.
- Have someone in your family write to that person/family and tell them that they have been prayed for by you.
- Mail the card and wait to see if you get a letter back!
This is a fun way to remember Christ's birth and those that celebrate that birth with us.
Romans 1:9
“God knows how often I pray for you. Day and night I bring you and your needs in prayer to God, whom I serve with all of my heart by telling others about the Good News about His Son.”
Philippians 1:3-4
“Every time I think of you, I give thanks to God. I always pray for you, and I make my requests with a heart full of joy because you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now.”
Luke 2:7
“She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the village inn.”
May God bless you during this Christmas season and all year. Spread the news of His birth all year with all you meet. Pray for others and let them know that you love them and think of them often—for Christ is born! He will die and rise for us! Amen!
