Thankful Hope in God

Isaiah 25:1
“O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.”

I read something “marvelous” yesterday in a child’s science magazine. Before I tell you what I read, let me tell you what the dictionary says “marvelous” means. It means: causing wonder or astonishment; like a miracle; splendid.

This is what I read in the magazine that I think is “marvelous.”
Some animals and some plants have an awesome sense of smell. Dogs can smell an area and know who or what has been there. Ants can follow a trail left by other ants towards a piece of food (like when we drop something at a picnic). Bees can follow a trail left by other bees towards the best flowers.

Some animals and some plants can use smells to send out messages to others as a warning. (Now here comes the “marvelous” part). Corn stalks send out a certain smell when there is an insect, like a caterpillar, munching on it! Yes! Corn does this! As soon as the caterpillar starts munching, the corn releases a certain smell as a cry for help. When a female wasp in the area smells the smell, she comes to the corn’s rescue. She comes and stings the caterpillar and then lays her eggs in the caterpillar so that when the eggs hatch, the larva have something to eat. The corn is then saved from being eaten! Isn’t that “marvelous?”

Only God could make our world so marvelous. Only God could create a world where animals and plants work together so well. Only God can make miracles happen. Can you think of any miracles that have happened in the Bible or in your life? It wasn’t “fate” or “luck” or “a coincidence” . . . it was God and He can do MARVELOUS things! Praise Him and thank Him and give Him credit for all of the MARVELOUS things in your life.

Dear Lord, thank You for all of the marvelous things that You have done in this world and in my life. Thank You for such marvelous creations like animals and plants. Thank You for such marvelous creations like us. Help us to remember to thank and praise You for all of Your gifts to us. Help us to remember to tell others about all of the marvelous things that You have done. Amen.
