Someone Special....Someone Like You
Genesis 6: 14, 19, 21 and 22; Chapter 7:1
“God said to Noah, ‘Make yourself an ark out of cypress wood. Make rooms in it. Cover it with tar inside and out. Bring two of every living thing into the ark. Take every kind of food that you will need.’”“Noah did everything as God commanded him. Then the Lord said to Noah, ‘Go into the ark with your whole family.’”
God loves variety. When you look around at things as you’re walking, you see lots of different kinds of flowers and trees. All sorts of different shapes, sizes and colors help make our world a much more interesting place.
I think God was thinking the same thing when it comes to people, too! The world is an interesting place because God made lots of different kinds of people, with lots of different ideas and ways of seeing things, and lots of different abilities.
A long time ago, there was a man by the name of Noah, and God chose him for a very special job. God asked him to build a very large boat (called an ark) that was as big as a football field! Because Noah and his sons only had hand tools, it took them many years to finish the project. Many of Noah’s neighbors laughed and made fun of him because there wasn’t even a lake or an ocean nearby.
But when the boat was ready, God told Noah to get the animals and his family on board. Then God made it rain. And rain it did, for forty days and forty nights, until the world was covered with water!
Noah and his family were safe because Noah had faith and listened to God, even if it didn’t make sense. Those that made fun of Noah didn’t believe in God, and they suffered the consequences. When we face difficult or confusing times in our lives, trusting God and obeying Him is the most important thing we can do, even if others don’t understand and don’t listen.
God, help us to be like Noah. Help us to trust You just like he did. Amen.
