God's Provision
Job 12:10:
“In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”
I was driving to my next appointment in Ohio and decided to pick up some lunch at one of the popular drive-thru places. Of course, I arrived during the busy lunch hour rush, which meant I was going to be in line for quite some time as the cars slowly moved forward, placed their orders, and drove to the next window to pick up their meal.
I had been traveling for four days, keeping up with my scheduled appointments with pastors and visiting our group homes, and I still had two more days of appointments before traveling back home to Michigan. As I waited in that drive-thru lane, I started to think about how much time I had before driving to my next appointment and wondering if I had all the materials and resources I needed for that meeting.
Traveling and driving that many days and following maps and directions, I began to feel weary as I thought about my activities in the last few days and what the next couple of days would bring. As I sat there quietly in my car, I happened to notice some movement in a shrub near my car. I glanced over and noticed a small sparrow working diligently at a piece of string that was entangled in one of the branches.
The bird was all alone and it struggled to pull the string with its beak. Then the bird stopped and grabbed the string from the other end, all the time trying to free it. After awhile, the sparrow stopped and just looked at the string. Finally after a brief rest, the sparrow gave one last pull at the string, and it was free. As the bird flew off with the prized string, I cheered thinking, wow, if God has this tiny creature in His hand, watching and guiding its every move and supplying its every need, how much more is He watching over me and providing me everything I need to get through each day.
How many times do I look at an issue or concern from all sides and try to work diligently to find the best solution. When I feel my days are twisted, and as I try to pull through and not get discouraged, do I release all my frustrations and worries over to God? Do I look to God daily for His guidance? As the song says, “His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.”
Every day we face challenges and decisions of all sizes whether it’s at home, work or school. May we always remember that God has every living creature in His hands. If we go to Him and keep in His Word daily, we will get through each day because He is there providing us with His guidance and love.
Thank You, Lord God for Your daily love and guidance and for always keeping us in Your loving hands. Amen.
