About Camp Matz

Volunteer and camper at Camp Matz

Camp Matz is a unique outdoor campground that is fully accessible to people with cognitive and physical disabilities. It is located on Bethesda's campus in Watertown, Wis.

Year after year, individuals with developmental disabilities and Lutheran youth come together to deepen their relationship with the Lord, and have fun!

Camp Matz is staffed by individuals who are trained to assist campers with their daily living skills, and by servant event volunteers, who help campers during meals and activity times. Volunteers are a minimum of 13 years old, and the chaperone ratio is seven youth to one adult.

Camp Matz has

  • climate-controlled cabins equipped with showers and other amenities
  • main lodge complete with kitchen
  • paved hiking trails through a scenic, wooded area
  • outdoor chapel area
  • accessible tree house!
